Covid

Generally speaking – when your body encounters a harmful substance (virus, bacteria, toxin), your immune system responds to neutralize the threat. Vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, excess mucous and sweating are all pathways your body uses to rid itself of the substance. Fevers are your body’s way of raising the temperature to a level such that a harmful organism can’t survive.

General advice regarding fevers, coughs, runny noses, diarrhea, etc: These are the body’s ways of detoxifying and it’s best to not suppress them. If you do suppress them, then it seems to take longer to heal. The wise pediatrician, Dr Larry Palevsky, has some sound advice for kids that also translates nicely to adults. It is NOT a good idea to use Tylenol, ibuprofen, antihistamines and other over the counter cold medicines to suppress your symptoms. Avoid them when possible, unless you are miserable.

I also recommend following the Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance Treatment Guidelines (this changes frequently; consider printing the most recent version in case they censor the website):

I see patients who are experiencing Covid-like symptoms via tele-medicine, and am also happy to provide specific guidance regarding Covid prevention.
